New Virgin Blue Maintenance Hanger Brisbane Airport
Principal contractors, Adco Constructions (Qld) Pty.Ltd., awarded the epoxy coating application contract for the floor of the new Virgin Blue maintenance hanger at the Brisbane airport to Multiblast Industrial Coatings .
An enormous amount of research was carried out by Multiblast to ensure the coating chosen met the client's stringent needs and requirements.
Being an airport hanger, the product not only had to be resistant to aviation fuel eg: Skydrol; it had to have the history to prove it. Also, the level of slip resistance requirements set down not only by Occupational Health and Safety but Virgin Blue's specific requirements needed to be adhered to, as well as a coating that was going to be easily maintained by cleaning staff.
The products chosen for the 5,000 sq metres of main hanger floor was a three roll coat system consisting of two coats of Hychem SF20FG in silver grey, followed by one coat of Hychem SF20 clear with 100 grade calcide alumina non slip.
In the 2500 sq. metres of workshop and store area at the rear of the building, Hychem SF25 waterbased epoxy in koala grey was chosen for its abrasion resistance.
Multiblast worked with Hychem's Queensland representative, Andrew Bolton to ensure that both Adco and the client, Virgin Blue were completely confident in both the application and the product selection.
The project was completed on time and to all those associated with the project – the desired outcome was achieved – a nil defect list.
